The Royal is in surprisingly good condition. The current tenant has made the building both watertight and secure.
The building is very solidly construced in brick, with concrete floor slabs and flat roofs with an asbestos roof over the auditorium. Built to meet the demands of the Cinematograph Act 1904, it is fire resistant and excellent in terms of building acoustics.
